Anglepoise® x Paul Smith Edition Three

Two cult names in British design unite for the third time to create a new and colourful edition of the Type 75™ Desk Lamp.

British lighting brand Anglepoise® and renowned British designer Paul Smith have partnered once again to create a third edition of the Type 75™ Desk Lamp. With its strident primary colour palette and engaging, angular Anglepoise® form, Anglepoise® + Paul Smith Edition Three evokes the vocabulary of Dutch painter Mondrian’s De Stijl style of art and launches to coincide with the run up to next year’s De Stijl centennial.

Paul Smith is known the world over for injecting the unexpected into classics, and for his bold use of colour; his signature stripe graphic has graced everything from clothes to handbags and even cars.

With the new Type 75™ Paul Smith edition, the designer has reinterpreted the hundred-year-old De Stijl colour palette in a fresh, dynamic and contemporary way. The new design both complements and contrasts the previous two editions, the first being fresh and floral (2014) and the second displaying jewel-like tones (2015).

“Paul Smith’s remarkable ability to reimagine and then reimagine again is a testimony to his unique way of interpreting the world around us,” says Simon Terry, co-owner of Anglepoise®.

“The wonderful thing about having the opportunity to work on another Anglepoise® lamp is that the two editions I’ve done up to now are almost like a winter and summer version. One in dark rich colours and the other in brighter pastels. What I’ve decided to do this time is take inspiration from the artist Mondrian and use accent colours of white, red, yellow and blue,” says Paul Smith.

The Anglepoise® + Paul Smith Type 75™ Desk Lamp – Edition Three will be available for purchase in October 2016.

Anglepoise® is carried in Singapore by The Lighting Gallery by Million Lighting.
